Panuku (Darwin)
Panuku is a Walpiri word which means ‘a place for everyone’. Located in the Rapid Creek Business Village in Millner, Darwin, Panuku is a place that dialysis patients from Lajamanu and Yirrkala living in Darwin can feel comfortable and at home.
People can come to Panuku to use the phone, have a cup of tea, get help and support or talk about getting back to to their home community on dialysis. To help people stay well we also have care coordination services funded by NTML which support patients to access primary health care and allied health services.
Panuku employs a team of Patient Preceptors, people who have lived experience of the renal disease journey and can provide expert advice and reassurance to Aboriginal renal patients. Predominately based at Panuku in Darwin, our Patient Preceptors service communities such as Lajamanu, Yirrkala and Angurugu on Groote Eylandt.
In 2019, our Patient Preceptors launched a first-of-its-kind report Our work is for our people at Share a Tale, Purple House’s conference in Alice Springs.
