Lajamanu

The community of Lajamanu is 557kms from Katherine (and 1318km from Alice Springs!).

Kurra Aboriginal Corporation initially funded WDNWPT to complete feasibility and scoping studies to look at the possibilities of community based dialysis. Subsequently they contributed funds to employ a Project officer to seek further funding for infrastructure and running costs. $2.366 million dollars was secured through ABA and we built a 2 chair dialysis unit and accommodation in the community.

The Lajamanu Progress Association generously donated $250,000 to help the project. Kurra continues to support our work.

The first dialysis at the Lajamanu Dialysis Unit took place on 27th May 2013 and was officially opened by the people of Lajamanu in August 2013. The unit enables Walpiri people from the community who have had to move to Katherine or Darwin for dialysis treatment to spend up to 8 weeks at a time at home.

The Lajamanu Dialysis Unit is supported by our team at Panuku in Darwin.
