Position Title: Enrolled Nurse (Dialysis)

Location: Remote dialysis site or Alice Springs as directed

Responsible To: Registered Nurse (Dialysis) or Director Clinical Services – site dependent

Position Summary:

The role of the Enrolled Nurse (Dialysis) is to deliver haemodialysis to patients with complex needs in a community context, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.  Key responsibilities include holistic care and chronic disease management to support renal patients and their families. Special conditions:

  • A vehicle is available for work purposes
  • The position is offered on a one year contract basis. At the end of this period further employment opportunities may be discussed
  • New appointments are probationary for the first six months

Standard Requirements:

  • Demonstrate a courteous and respectful manner and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Capacity to live and work in a remote environment and to be relocated as required
  • Demonstrate cultural awareness and knowledge of cultural safety and Indigenous community control
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about clients, other staff members or community members.
  • Work to achieve standards of best practice, and promote continuous quality improvement
  • Demonstrate safe work practices and promote a safe work environment
  • All employees are encouraged to obtain immunisation against common vaccine preventable diseases

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide optimal dialysis treatment and holistic care within the scope of practice of an Enrolled Nurse, under direct supervision by a Registered Nurse.
  2. Work effectively within a team with a focus on patient care at all times
  3. Develop and maintain positive relationships within the community, and engage with community strengthening activities
  4. Provide documentation for reporting as required
  5. Manage a diverse workload, using and maintaining assets and resources effectively
  6. Maintain clinical competency in haemodialysis and Basic Life Support

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  • Qualifications and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA)
  • A minimum of 2 years’ Haemodialysis nursing experience
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Medication endorsement
  • Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card)
  • Recent Police Clearance (if greater than 6 months old you may be required to seek a new clearance)

Desirable:

  • Experience living and working in remote communities
  • Indigenous language skills
  • Current driver’s licence (manual)
