Galiwin’ku is the main community on Elcho Island, located 150km west of Nhulunbuy and 550km north east of Darwin off the coast of North East Arnhem Land. The Island is at the southern end of the Wessel Island group in the Arafura Sea and is 48km long by 11km wide. This Yolnu community of mainly Djambarrpuynu speaking people has a population of about 2,500 people and is the largest Aboriginal community in North East Arnhem Land. Galiwin’ku has a School, Police Station, Art Centre and Health Clinic run by Miwatj Health.

The Galiwin’ku dialysis unit was opened in May 2022 in partnership with Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation and is coordinated by the Panuku office in Darwin.
