Kalkarindji is a Gurindji community located 460km south west of Katherine or 780km south of Darwin on the Buntine Highway. Kalkarindji is considered the birthplace of Aboriginal Land Rights being 8km south of the famous site of the 1966 Wave Hill walk off. The community is a gateway to Judbarra/Gregory National Park and sits on the banks of the Victoria River. With a population of about 400 people, Kalkarindji has a Store, School, Police Station, Church, Health Centre, Caravan Park, Karungkarni Art Centre and the Warnkurr Sports and Social Club.
Residents have been able to come home for dialysis in Kalkarindji since Christmas 2018 when the Purple House dialysis unit opened in partnership with Katherine West Health Service. The Kalkarindji unit is coordinated from the Panuku office in Darwin.
