Newman is the largest town in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia. Referred to as an ‘Outback Oasis’, Newman is 1,200km north of Perth along the Great Northern Highway on the edge of the Western Desert. With a population of 8,000, the town is on the traditional lands of the Nyiyarparli people with the Martu people as current custodians. Newman has a Shopping Mall, several Hotels, Bars and Restaurants, a Swimming Pool, Schools, medical facilities, a Hospital, Martumili Art Centre and the largest single open-cut iron ore mine in the world. Nearby attractions include Karijini National Park, Weeli Wolli, Kalgans Pool, Eagle Rock Falls, Karlamilyi National Park and Opthalmia Dam.
On April 28th 2022, Purple House opened a Dialysis Centre in the Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS) Newman Clinic. This 4 chair unit is the first community-controlled dialysis unit in the Pilbara.
