Providing Life-Saving Care on Country
Remote Indigenous communities in Central Australia face some of the highest rates of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in the world – up to 30 times higher than the national average. When a person’s kidneys stop working, haemodialysis treatment becomes essential to remove toxins and excess fluid from the body. Without treatment, patients cannot survive.
Haemodialysis treatment typically involves 5-hour sessions 3 times a week indefinitely. For those living in remote communities, access to this life-saving treatment can often mean leaving their homes and families behind. Communities are left without elder leadership, families are broken and culture is weakened. Patients suffer from isolation and depression, restricted by a dialysis machine for their foreseeable future.
At Purple House, we’re changing this story.
What We Do
We operate 20 remote dialysis clinics across the NT, WA and SA, and provide mobile treatment through our two Purple Truck dialysis units. With several more units on the way, we are bringing life-saving care directly to communities, enabling patients to stay connected to their Country, family and culture.
We also provide:
- Respite and social support in Alice Springs, Darwin, and Perth for patients needing a break from mainstream dialysis centres.
- Culturally safe care that feels like home, improving treatment adherence and patient well-being.
- Opportunities for patients to learn self-care dialysis, empowering them to manage their treatment.
- Support for kidney transplant preparation, helping patients work toward life-changing transplant opportunities.
- Guidance from our team of Patient Preceptors, who provide culturally safe support throughout the renal journey.
