Purple Truck
What is the Purple Truck?
The Purple Truck is a self-contained dialysis unit on wheels. First launched in 2012, the Purple Truck was made possible through the support of Medicines Australia, Papunya Tula Artists and Fresenius.
With two dialysis chairs, the Purple Truck can return renal patients to communities that don’t have permanent dialysis units to visit family or attend cultural events. The Truck can also support our existing dialysis units to get more patients home during important family, cultural, or sorry business.
Purple House now operates two Purple Trucks, stationed in Central Australia and the Top End, expanding access to dialysis care.
A Moving Work of Art
The Purple Truck’s exterior showcases stunning artwork by renowned Papunya Tula artists and dialysis patients Patrick Tjungurrayi and Ningura Napurrula. It is a beautiful thing and has become a symbol for patients returning home.
Bringing the Purple Truck Back on the Road
After a pause due to staff shortages and COVID-19 travel restrictions, the Purple Trucks are currently undergoing maintenance by our biomedical engineering team. We are working hard to ensure they are roadworthy and ready to serve communities again soon.
