Return to Country

Ngurra: Country

For Indigenous people, Returning to Country is more than just going home – it’s about staying connected to family, community, and culture. At Purple House, we help our dialysis patients be in the right place at the right time, so they can:

  • Spend time with loved ones
  • Participate in cultural and community events
  • Maintain their emotional, spiritual, and physical wellbeing

Why Return to Country Matters

Before Purple House was around to help, patients would get homesick and catch a lift home – missing treatments and risking serious illness. Often, this led to emergency evacuations to hospital.
Now, patients know they can return home safely – without missing their life-saving dialysis.

    The Return to Country Program

Purple House provides personalised support to help patients travel home safely while staying on dialysis.

While Return to Country can be getting people home on dialysis, it can also look like assisting with short term visits between dialysis treatments or providing extra support for patients who need it. Some people have access to a car and need some help with fuel and sometimes we can drive people home or help them to access other transport – it is all about giving people what they need to get home and back safely.

Kurrunpa Kana: Keeping the Spirit Alive

No one should have to choose between their health and their home.
By helping patients Return to Country, we ensure they remain connected to their families, communities, and culture – while still receiving the care they need.
