This September, the Purple House Ceramics group presents their newest exhibition: Yarltiri Walya!
You are warmly invited to Yarltiri Walya, part of Desert Mob’s Satellite Events. The exhibition will feature one of a kind pieces, and opens with a celebration with the artists in our East Side Social Enterprise Hub and garden, where the artists’ ceramics will be displayed across our indoor and outdoor spaces. And the best part is, everything is for sale!

The exhibition will run from 10 – 19 September 2025, but we encourage you to get in early as pieces may sell fast!
About the Purple House Ceramics Group
Each Wednesday at CDU, the Purple House Patient Ceramics group made up of artists Selina, Magda, Julie, Elizabeth, Kathy, Judy, Ms Shannon and Gwendoline, meet and enjoy two hours of uninterrupted clay making. For more than four years this group has met weekly as part of a creative wellbeing program facilitated by Purple House in partnership with Charles Darwin University.
Guided by mentors and ceramic artists Mel Robson (CDU) and Mik Rodgers (Purple House), the group offers more than just an artistic outlet. It is a meaningful opportunity for Purple House patients, outside of their dialysis treatment, to come together and share stories, experiment with clay and express themselves through art. Each member brings her own unique story to the group, and in between the laughs and silence of artistic concentration, they support each other in a creative space through the ups and downs of their ongoing treatment.

Serena was one of the newest members of the ceramics group, so naturally was tasked with naming the upcoming exhibition. Serena chose the title Yarltiri Walya, meaning “white mud” in Warlpiri language, a fitting name that reflects the clay the group uses in their work. Sadly, Serena has since passed away. The group remember her as a warm and creative woman, and will celebrate her and her artwork at the upcoming show.
