Our Impact

Improving Lives and Strengthening Communities

Since Purple House began, dialysis patients in Central Australia have gone from having the worst outcomes in Australia to the best, living longer and having better quality of life on their terms.

Social Impact Report 2025

We are so proud to launch our second Social Impact Report, sharing data and stories from 2024/25 that highlight our impact on individuals and communities.

Dialysis on Country

By providing remote dialysis, we help our people to maintain vital connections to Country, culture, family and community. This supports better health, wellbeing and the spirit to stay strong. It also means important traditional knowledge and practices are maintained and passed on.

2024/25 Highlights:

  • 11,002 dialysis treatments on country
  • 227 patients dialysed on country
  • 20 Years of Dialysis in Kintore, 10 Years of Dialysis in Kiwirrkurra, 5 Years of Dialysis in Pukatja

“It’s all about getting people home where they belong. You are not just a nurse out here, you are part of the family, part of the community.”

Kat, Nurse

Indigenous Workforce

As an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation we are guided by our Pintupi Luritja Directors. We deeply value and celebrate the cultural knowledge, lived experience and relationships our Indigenous staff bring.

“Culture is at the core of Purple House’s
strategic goals and vision. Aboriginal people know the solutions to their problems, we know how to look after our people. Everyday I am inspired, I hear the stories and the challenges of our people, and I just love how Purple House doesn’t have to fit in this box. We can look at different avenues of how to make people healthy not just physically
    but also spiritually.”

Natasha McCormack, Purple House Deputy CEO

    Return to Country

Our Return to Country program helps dialysis patients make short trips home to reconnect with family and fulfill cultural obligations. These trips involve a coordinated effort across the organisation to ensure transport, accommodation, and medical care are provided to ensure patients are strong and healthy for travel.

    2024/25 Highlights:

    • 34,803 Km travelled
    • 107 patients and clients participated in return to Country trips

    Care For Country

Looking after Ngurra (Country) is a deep
    cultural responsibility shared by our
    patients and Pintupi-Luritja Directors.

As an organisation, we care for Country by reducing our environmental impact. Dialysis is a water-intensive treatment,
which can be especially challenging in desert communities where water access and quality are major issues.

    2024/25 Highlights:

    • 330,600 Litres of water saved in 2024/25
    • 35.408 tonnes of CO2 saved from Solar

    Healthy Food

Nutritious, renal-friendly meals help keep patients strong while also fostering social connection and emotional well-being. We provide daily meals at our Mparntwe (Alice Springs) home base and aged care services in Yuendumu and Mt Liebig.

    2024/25 Highlights:

    • 34,963  Healthy meals provided

    Bush Medicine

Our Bush Balm social enterprise grew from dialysis patients missing the healing properties of bush medicine. Today, we provide free bush medicine for clients while also operating a thriving retail business. The enterprise also emphasises Indigenous employment, with a team of local young women making the balms and ensuring this traditional knowledge is passed on.

    2024/25 Highlights:

    • 5,573  tubs of bush medicine for patients and clients
    • 823 people attended bush medicine demonstrations
