Joyce began her journey at Purple House in our Aged Care team, providing care and personal support to clients who have relocated to Alice Springs for treatment. Through Purple House, she had the opportunity to complete a Certificate II in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, which required her to travel 1,500 km to Batchelor each month over 9 months to complete the course. Joyce has now taken on a new role as our very first Patient and Voice Advocacy Officer— we can’t wait to see Joyce shine in this role, inspiring others to pursue their own growth and make a difference in our community.

“I grew up having our old people around and wanting to be part of what they do — sitting around the fire with them. That’s when I realised I like Purple House. I connect to this line of work, and I’m passionate about the people. I have learnt so much and have been able to visit communities I never had the chance to before — five or six in total. There is a client from Mt Liebig that I’m very close to now. When I went to Mt Liebig and saw her on dialysis, that was a proud moment for me — seeing people back on Country.”
